About

I'm Nécole.  Mum to the Kiddos, and Missus to the Mister.  I'm rather a latecomer to this whole blog scene, but, upon gentle (or not so much) persuasion from the Mister, and a very dear friend, I decided to go for it.  I expect they may just have needed a break from my incessant ramblings.  Fair enough.  So you get to be privy to my chatter.  Thanks for that.  (They thank you too!)

My rants and rambles, at least on this blog, tend to mainly focus on my very favorite pastime:  Food.  Cooking it, eating it, reading about it.  I love food.  Period.  Having spent several years living overseas, in Portugal, England, and New Zealand, as well as journeyed through several countries, I've learned to value the simple, the homey, and the soulful.  I spend a heck of a lot of time in my tiny kitchen, in my wee house, cooking and feeding family and friends, and hopefully creating some good memories and traditions for all of us.

I learned a huge amount about cooking from the Mister, who actually is a former cook/short-term restauranteur (of sorts.) While our cooking styles are completely different...that is, he's messy as hell, and I'm rather clenched about that sort of thing (kidding, or not)...the truth is, I wouldn't know half what I do about food, or be so passionate about it, had he not gifted me with his knowledge, and wild abandon in the kitchen.  Thanks, Mister.

While we're on the subject of the Mister, I tend to (sometimes excessively) sing his praises.  I can't help it.  He's awe-inspiring.  I met him, having newly arrived and landed a job at a beachfront cafe in Portugal, and fell instantly for the guy.  (Also, he was accompanied by a surf board.  That truly does wonders to make you notice a guy.  Even at a beach.)  In the time we've been together, over eleven years now, he's been a cook, an artist, ran a restaurant, made furniture, worked as a design engineer, become a husband, and (shortly thereafter) a father, traveled halfway around the globe with me, rebuilt a house...sorry.  I warned you that I tend to go on.  Suffice it to say, I'm incredibly blessed.  Not only that I get to adventure through life with such a fine specimen...but that he puts up with my antics.  Seriously.

My Kiddos, nearly 7 and 10 years old, are powerful stuff.  The Boy is my rock, the Girl is my roll.  I dig those people.

Right...other things I'm into:  knitting, books, music, bubbly wine, impromptu parties for no good reason, the beach, babies (although I'm done having them), laughing uncontrollably, swearing a blue streak, sarcasm, witty people, people who can think on their feet, going barefoot, summer, starting projects...

Things I am not into:  finishing projects, mini-vans, eggplant, my camera, neediness, wearing shoes, being cold, fake food, fussy food, people who aren't into food...you get the picture.

I hope you enjoy your time here.  I'm usually having a laugh myself, so perhaps you'll have a wee giggle as well.  I love to hear from you, so leave a comment, if you feel moved in that direction.
